Previously Defender was only available for businesses, however it's now available for the general public (with a 365 subscription) to help combat phishing attempts and malware in Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.
It should be viewed as a supplementary tool to help manage your security posture and reduce your risk. It's not meant to be an all-out replacement for your anti-virus and anti-malware protection.
At first glance for iOS, it's a frictionless setup which prompts you to add protection for malicious VPN Links and Phishing Attempts. It will also let you add other devices through emailing, copying a link, or scanning a QR code.
The Windows App is available through the Microsoft Store and was just as easy to onboard my laptop.
